Underlining International Women’s Day and the 100 anniversary of female suffrage in Norway, The Norwegian Peace Council would like to invite you to the meeting with Kathryn Bolkovac, a woman whose actions were fully dedicated to women’s difficult situation and a screening of the film The Whistleblower based on her story. There will also be served Bosnian food and drink specialties and a concert of the band Rakija, who plays music inspired by the Balkan scene.
Kathryn Bolkovac is an American former police officer who took a job as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia. Her expectations of helping to rebuild a devastated country were dashed when she uncovered a dangerous reality of corruption, cover-up and intrigue amidst a world of private contractors and multinational diplomatic doubletalk. She has dicovered involvement of peacekeepers in sexual exploitation and sex trafficking in post-conflict situations. Her story was told in the movie The Whistleblower starring Rachel Weisz, Vanessa Redgrave and Monica Belluci.
